Drawn by Pain news 11-12-09
Some cool news. The awesome folks over at Film News Briefs:

A newsletter that goes out to everyone and anyone in the biz of entertainment has named me (Jesse Cowell) and “Drawn by Pain” as one of November’s Filmmakers to Watch (we have been receiving some great emails from the shoutout)!
*”November Filmmaker’s to Watch”
“Filmmaker: Jesse Cowell “Drawn by Pain”
Editor’s Note: This is a great action series, with a nice following. We’re hearing that a feature version of the show is complete and they are exploring distribution options.”
Also – as it’s hard to describe what we’ve been able to achieve thus far with the project to folks , I put together a new 3 minute video of media/fan highlights of “Drawn by Pain” that gives a great sampling of what is possible with a good concept, hard work and lots of support from fans/friends:
Hope you are all doing amazing!!

Been a bit since our last update and lots to tell:
1) We just recently finished work on the feature film version based on our web-series “Drawn by Pain”. It involved a lot of re-editing/sound design and concept work to morph it into the strong stand-alone feature film it was always meant to be. Now that it is done – I can promise that it really is a stronger experience in its true form.
2) As the work is ready to be seen, we are beginning to talk to various distributors about the best avenue for getting the most people to see the film. As the web-series already has a pretty large following – we really look forward to getting the right distributor in place to have it seen properly.
3) After negotiating with several film representatives, we recently signed with one and are super excited to have a company who truly believes in the film and its fanbase!
4) I will be speaking tomorrow September 23rd (2:45 pm) at the New York Television Festival giving the “Straight Dope” on Web TV (link below).
*EVENT HAS PASSED – LINK BELOW TO WATCH PANEL* Note – the audio is hard to hear for the first 15 minutes or so – skip forward by clicking the time bar at the bottom – after that great!
The Straight Dope on Web TV
Digital Day Events

A group of NYTVF artists, alumni and friends who have found success in Web Television share their unfiltered thoughts about how to succeed, artistically and commercially.
Panelists:
• Sean Tice – “WallStrip,” “Moblogic”
• Douglas Sarine – “Ask a Ninja”
• Stuart Culpepper – “The Captive”
• Jesse Cowell – “Drawn by Pain”
5) Lastly, as the “Drawn by Pain” web series continues to attract a wide audience from all over the world and more friends and fans join us everyday, we can’t thank you all enough for taking the time to elevate our heartfelt project to where it is now and what it will be someday soon.
Thanks as always – more updates to come sooner than later!
-Jesse “Jeskid” Cowell
PS: A very special congrats to Erica Langworthy, “Drawn by Pain’s” gifted animator for going on to do 3D fx for the WWE!

Hello all!
Wanted to tell you about a very cool book that our little/big movie has just been featured in (on 15 or so pages) for its stylistic techniques in creating good moments of dramatic change! I am beyond humbled that Norman Hollyn, editor of many Hollywood films, choose to talk about us (next to films like the Matrix and the Godfather!) in his new book titled “The Lean Forward Moment.” No matter how you get your story out there, it really goes to show that with enough push, passion and ongoing determination, someone will notice.

Being in the book notwithstanding – it really is a great read with all kinds of informative tidbits and insights rarely seen in texts for filmmakers/people interested in film. So if you are interested at all in storytelling (in all types of film, tv and web media), I highly recommend taking a look.

You guys rock as always. Thx for helping make the film what it is and is becoming!

We have finally gotten the soundtrack for “Drawn by Pain” onto Itunes and Amazon.com! (volume 1 of 2). If you enjoyed songs from the film and like to help starving musicians – please go get some of their awesome stuff (and leave a review if you like). All the proceeds go to them as they were kind enough to give me their talents to use in my film.

Oh snap an update…..
So, after finally coming down from the amazing cast and crew screening we had last month (which I can’t thank all the awesome people enough that came out – we filled two theaters full), I wanted to catch you guys up on a few things: Erica, Drawn by Pain’s Animator extraordinaire, and myself have been doing to rest up before putting “Drawn by Pain” forward in its new feature length version.

As for me – I recently got to see a short (that I shot for my friend Kirby here in NYC) come out on the web to some pretty big numbers and laughs. If you haven’t seen it yet – it’s a Mac Vs PCs mixture of West Side Story meets Evil dead. Strange? Yes! Fun? Was a blast! Click below!!!
As for Erica, in her infinite geekiness (another word for awesome) she spent a bit of time making Halo armor for the hit show IndyMogul which can be seen here:
A better and stranger team there is not
Looking forward to the next Drawn by Pain news and other stuff to share!
Oh and btw for those asking for Jeskid TV – just playing around with a site (JeskidTv.com) to share my daily thoughts on (gonna start small and grow it out to kill ultimate boredom)
