Jesse, I find myself at a loss for words. I loved the way you closed this, It felt good to watch.Gave me goose bumps. I get the same feeling at the end of any great show or movie that i watch, I don’t want it to end. I find myself now anticipating the next episode. No fear the Dvd shall be here and I might relive the whole journey.
Thank You.

To the whole cast and crew:
What a wonderful piece of art you have created. You should all receive the highest of awards for your efforts here. Each element worked together to draw the viewer in, and make us part of Emily’s painful journey. I appreciate you sharing your craft with the world.
To Jesse:
You have done an incredible job with this film. I think you captured your vision in a way that few people could. If anyone deserves to achieve their dreams, it is you. You have worked harder than anyone I’ve ever met and I am so proud of your effort and what it has produced. Thank you for never giving up, even in the face of adversity. All of your hard work was well worth the wait.
[Reply]
nice work! well done everyone, thank you
[Reply]
Episode 12 had a twist that i did not anticipate and that was freakin cool at the end. By far the most involved as the animation goes, good work Erica! Kenny! you played a great thug lol by far teh coolest death in the movie
The music box! I said way at the beginning that it was going to have some sort of significance or at least be throughout the series and it was.
You couldn’t have had a better day to shoot the snowy scene, kinda made it all come full circle for Emily and she was finally able to move on with her life.
Young Emily (Elizabeth) did an excellent job and i hope to see you in more films down the road. Michael Speer, holy crap, by far the most scariest character in the series, was a great ending for you as well. Guy, Marissa…excellent work as always. I cant imagine havin to do what you were doing as far as interacting with something that wasn’t there when you initially shot then to see it all come together well it was awesome. Jonas! Your obsession and persistence to find out what goin on with Emily sure paid off huh? :p I didnt anticipate the role you would have and you played it well.
It was well worth the wait, Jes, Erica, Marissa, Guy and everyone involed, you should be proud of yourselves, it was a great piece of work and i cant wait for the DVD release.

From ferreting around the webs I see this is getting a warm welcome over all.
This is the finale’ that really brings the story full circle and I think that you have something you can be proud of here. No real points of contention for this, there were some flubs here and there but it is a blink and no one will see them unless they watch it like 4 times….like me…*shrug*.
Guy’s stoicism really comes out here and his almost heroic nature. I like the minimal dialog as well, the majority of this episode is music and animation and the body language of everyone involved. Marissa as well let her emotions really shine throug from the fighting to the tears.
Bravo to you al, looking forward to the DVD and the event in October.
[Reply]
That was a great ending! Very nice I loved it so glad that I finally got to watch it all!

A great ending to a great series. The plot twist in the episode was one thing i never expected at all. Thank you Jes, Erika and everybody else who worked on this.

Dear Jesse
It is me the long time fan. Ok now that i am done with that bit of corny introduction i will saw my peice.
It is hard to put into words what i am felling right now with this finished. I love it. The twist at the very end i could not it coming. This film is a testament to your talent as a film maker. I love it more than Shades of Gray and I still watch that all the time. I just can’t wait for the dvd to come out cause then i can sit down and watch it and pick up ever detail that i missed. The music was perfectly timed in the end to make the emotion of the finale all the more intense. You did a great job and now all i can hope for is that someone picks up on this film and takes it places with you.
With great love and Joy

(repost, I posted it in the wrong area earlier today…. oops)
I know I have been lagging in showing my support. But I have to say that this is one of the finest series I have seen on the web, or even TV, in a very long time. Through Jesses vision of a story that shows a womens inner torture and pain, brought on by past life experiences, growing up knowing that she can’t run from it. It has so many stories to tell in each episode. To sit down and watch them in there entirety is a experience that should be shared over and over again. There is a little part of this series that everyone in the world can relate to in some way. Even tho the story line is specific to a women and her past. I could see parts of my past in there as well. Maybe not that violent, but none the less, similar. I hope this opens a lot of doors for you Jesse. You are a genius of film and of story telling. I like your visions and style.
I hope your dreams begin to take flight.
To the crew… You’ll have to wait on my comments on you. I have to get back to work.

[repost from me too…put this in wrong area earlier!]
Absolutely amazing…the action, the silences, the reconciliation, the timing, the editing, the acting, the animation, the young and older Emily. Nothing like this out there. I was crying and cheering. I couldn’t have expected anything this intensely moving and compelling!

This was an *incredible* way to end the series. Congrats to all involved, this is truly excellent work. The plot (no spoilers here!) was just SO touching…I was completely moved by the entire thing. I will definitely be buying the DVD when it comes out, and recommending DBP to everyone I know — this is truly a work of art and a labor of love, and it shows! Well worth the waiting, guys, thanks so much for sharing with us!

To the Cast and Crew.
First and for most, Marissa. Your presents was warm and welcoming. Yet your rendition of Emily was spot on. Hard, powerful, and harsh when needed. Seriously, you have it! Keeping pushing in to the biz, I think you have some serious talent and can take if far!
Elizabeth. I know you didn’t have to many lines, but you held your own in front of the camera very, very well. The emotions you showed in your eyes seemed as real as they could be. You look like a strong person. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
Then there was Guy. Not to reflect on the past, but you had me busting out laughing in Shades of Grey. In Drawn By Pain you where so caring and insightful. I know it was written by Jesse, but you brought Doug to life. It makes me wonder if you are really like that in person. I would have to guess yes.
Micheal Speer - You scared the crap out of me man! I kind of remember a behind the scenes video and or pictures with you laughing and having fun with everyone on the set. I really needed to see that. Your performance was awesome! Seriously, wonderful job. I hope to see you smile more in future projects.
There are so many more people to talk about and thank for what they did for this series/film. Nico Rowland, Matt Sisco, Jed Smith, Selcuk Bor, Jeff Strathearn , Daniel Collins, and Bad Man Inc. and Darkside. All composers of music used in the series. I had chills so many different times from the music going along with the action that I am hoping there will be a cd of the sound track for sale soon. (hint)
To all the other actors and crew, no matter how small your gift was to Jesse in helping him. Thank You, each and everyone of you!
[Reply]
Wow Jes, It was great! Everyone put so much into it and it’s obvious. I’m so glad to have been here and to be one of your supporters through it all. Marissa, you are lovely and a great actress! I can’t wait to see where you go from here. Erica, you are a very talented lady and it really shines in this film. And Guy, you are one of my favorite people I have met through Jes’ great adventure!
Now, relax, give yourself a minute to breathe and get then out and conquer the world Jesse.
[Reply]
Congrats on completing your “baby”. You and Erica put a lot of your lives into this project, and the finished film was worth it.
The last episode even taught me something…never send a Scottsman to do a man’s job
Poor Kenny, maybe next project you get to live.
[Reply]
Dammit, Jesse. You aren’t supposed to be able to make me tear up like that. Great episode and a perfect ending to a fantastic story.
I liked how everything seemed to convey itself better because of the subdued reactions, emotions and even the camera work. It’s also been great fun to watch Erica’s animation skills improve over the course of the series. Her character designs and sense of motion are truly what made it possible to bridge that gap into unreality. I’ll always love her artwork.
I have to admit that at the beginning of the series, I had a hard time finding Emily as a sympathetic character. The constant “my childhood was shattered” anger and fear was starting to grate a bit.
However, Marissa did a fantastic job of conveying a broad spectrum of emotions throughout the series and - as expected - I was glued to my chair to see what would happen next. She’s a fine actress and it was a pleasure watching her perform.
Elizabeth better have an agent and that agent better be working his/her butt off to get her into more acting roles. Fantastic.
Michael…dang. There aren’t many performances that make me wish the bad guy hadn’t died.
Guy: I can’t imagine what it was like playing a character who had to remain absolutely calm while the world around him was turning completely insane. You truly grounded the story in reality with your performance. Thank you.
The entire cast put so much of themselves into this and it shows (except for that martial arts dude at the end…what’s up with that?;)
Thank you for bringing us all along for the ride…

Hey Jesse! Very very well done! Very awesome ending for the characters. And the camera angles were amazing. Animation, also amazing. Good job Erica! Best web series I’ve ever seen.
Jesse, you are a great director.
Hope to see more of your phenomenal work.

Wow. Amazing. Stunning end to a work of art. Can’t wait to see it all again in New York! The shadows thing was great, too; never saw it coming, and it’s been in the opening titles the whole time. Very nice!
The above comment was a spoiler, by the way. If you haven’t seen the episode, you probably shouldn’t have read it.
See ya’ll in October!

Excellent work. I can’t wait to see the full length edit in NYC! w00t! DbP is finally here in all it’s entirety!
[Reply]
I’m glad that you got to the end of it, but all in all it was a pretty average sometimes boring series with pointless montages tht never made me feel emotional once. I don’t fully see the mass love of this series which does seem like it was written by a teenager who thinks their work is deep but is really just not understood because its not good, plus i can’t believe you couldnt see the plot twist of the father being the big anime giant, it was prettyobvious, so well done but go for something less artsy, which we all know is never great.

Some Chick NYC reply on September 4, 2008 12:25 pm:
I kinda agree with you as far as the writing goes. It seems at some points they just told the actors to make it sound sad. I understand the prior to this you did mostly comedy stuff so understand. All and all I still think it was a good series and an original idea.
As for the final episode on a whole I like it. There are still a few questions that need to be answered, like how he knew she’d be there at that time? I’m not even completely sure how she defeated at the end. But I’ll chuck it up to movie magic. I enjoyed the series end greatly still. I thought it was shot really well. And I give point for having her young self and old self battling the pasted (very good move to bring it all together).

This film Drawn By Pain, I am glad to have had the opportunity to see this. The conclusion, is I feel to be solid, yet open to more possibilities. It’s been a while since I saw the episodes, before to this one so I went and watched a couple episodes up to this point first. I have to say I am always wow’ed when an episode starts, it feels so big. This episode is huge. AND BADASS. Enough action, exposition and heart-string tugging to keep the viewer watching. I like the idea that, the ending isn’t necessarily open ended however I still feel that this is like the big prelude movie to a tv show. I mean that in the sense that this awesome show could keep going. I am glad someone had the balls to tackle such a hard topic. The Feature will definitely prove the worth of this episodic Web-Series. It has been fantastic watching this awesome character with this amazing creative way of viewing this world that Emily Waters lives in.
Thank you for sharing some of your creative insane box “brain” and writing of this film.
I ask myself all the time how the hell does he come up with this stuff? It’s mind-bogglingly amazing.

Oh yeah, Dude, the shots in this movie made me cream my pants.

Didn’t like the finale. It was produced well, I just didn’t ‘feel’ it as well as I did with some of the other episodes.
Perhaps it was just the long delay between ep11 and 12. I watched episodes 1-11 in one sitting, so maybe I just lost the story track during the hold over.
Still a nice series, seriously twisted and I found myself oddly drawn to it. An original piece of art, that’s for sure.
[Reply]
Jesse “I Seen The Motha F**ker” Cowell… I admit, I was a bit worried about how the conclusion of DBP would play out, but I can’t deny that it was a work of genius. I enjoyed the finale not only because of the well written story, but the lighting at the end of this episode used to compliment the tone was par none. If you continue your career with more original and well produced works of art like Drawn By Pain you will go far. I’m certain your goal isn’t to become famous, but… well, it may just happen mon ami!
Sorry I couldn’t check out the episode when it was released, but it certainly was worth the wait! Can’t wait for the DVD release.
[Reply]
Feel kind of stupid for not congratulating the cast and rest of the crew… Stunning animations, and superb acting, I’d hate to leave out everyone who made this series!
[Reply]
Wow! You kept us on tender hooks for FAR too long but the wait woas worth every second! Do we get alternative endings on the DVD?!
Awesome job dude, very different and equally refreshing! Really looking forward to seeing it start to finish on DVD!
So…. What’s next!
[Reply]
Brilliant! Thanks for all the time and effort and love you poured into this. I hope it gets you guys noticed!

Personally, I’m not much up for the series. I watched it, but didn’t think it was all too great. Maybe I’m just not seeing the hidden meanings in this. Does someone mind explaining these to me?
The little musical toy? What’s the symbolism behind that? Is its role simply a reminder of the good times with her mum?
What’s the purpose of the little kid always showing up in the future?
What was the point of her killing the dog, sybolism-wise?
And then why did it come back? Why did it ever attack her in the first place?
Why did she team up with the father figure? Scratch that, why the hell did he stop attacking her?
Why did they disappear in that shed, in the absence of light?
Am I just not seeing something obvious? Or is there really no hidden meaning here.
[Reply]
Wow…just fucking wow !
I really related with this episdode the most.
I totally understand the whole abusive family thing. I went through that when I was a little kid.
I love how you ended this Jesse.
Mucho mucho congrats to you and Erica.

Firstly: For some reason, part 12 still isn’t out on Vuze. I was relying on Vuze to tell me when part 12 was available and it never happened.
Secondly, I totally agree with “Wow!”.
VXxed, I believe the creators have deliberately left some room for personal interpretation. I have my opinions, but I doubt they’re the only valid ones.
