Episode 1: The first installment of a 12 part series. Fusing animation with live action, Emily Waters struggles to deal with her real life, inner (and outer) demons.
The father got what he deserved, to see him beyond first episode kknowing hes alive would have sucked. But i had already seen first ep already before the launch lol Great music for the episode, btw. In teh first episode you get to see the background of how she came to be what she is in episode 2

Amazing jes, every element was spot on. Acting rocked, cinematography rocked, animation rocked, story rocked, and the music matched and intensified the mood perfectly. I can’t wait to see this story unfold
Music did fit in nicely, very good timing on that part i must say.

Awesome Job! I really liked that the musical ballerina box played what seems like is going to be the theme song for the series (from the promo)? Very cool subtlety.
What I love about Episode 1 is how emotionally packed it is. I really feel for young Emily, and her father scares the hell out of me.
I like how fresh the concept is for your series - drama, action and animation all in one.. very cool. The scene where Emily is first overtaken by her other self is one of my favourites - it’s all consuming and yet flickers in and out. Love it.
I thought it was sad what her dad did. But what Emily did was only fair. And what a perfect cover up. A Heart attack. Awesome job on the episode Jesse.
I think it was fast paced in this episode. But like a couple commenters already said it has to be. So that we all know what is going on. It is sad her parents are killed but overall I thought this was an awesome episode.
I came to know about DBP throuugh IndyMogul (I subscribe to his youtube videos) I am so amazed and at the same time intrigued by the whole story. I am on episode 4 and I cannot wait for the next ones. Though I plan to savor each scene and the animation so when I feature it on my website, it woukld surely “lure” my readers to your site.
I hope you dont mind that I would write about this on http://www.filteany.com and too bad, I was not able to to see you guys at the NY comic con, I did a vlog for the 3 days event.
I found the acting rather average and the pacing atrocious - around minute six I wound up chanting “okay, he’s a bad father, we get it” at the screen. But it’s nicely shot, and most of all I’m fascinated by the drawing gimmick; an intriguing theme, and well elaborated. It’s rare to see a movie that uses its own unique visual language, and even more one where that language is tied directly to the plot. A perfect synchronic use of what I suppose is a shoestring budget. I shall be watching the rest with great interest.
As a whole - the first part makes a bit more sense from a pacing standpoint - but as an episode - I completly understand where you are coming from. I appreciate the kind words and look forward to your thoughts of the future episodes.
As Jenny pointed out, this episode seemed to have a bit of pacing issues, but it seemed like the acting was good enough (to the point where I did wince a couple times myself).
The art style is certainly different, and the writing itself is so far creepy that I’ll have to see the rest in small pieces.
Understood - the rest of the series is not as unflinching as the first part (although it has its moments for sure). I had to set it up like in the IMO for the rest to work on it’s back.
The wait was worth it since November!

I loved it, the scene in young Emily’s room when the animation is taking over has to be my favorite by far.

Such a fantastic start; the history, the intrigue, the foundation for the rest of the story…all of it is perfectly crafted.

The episode that started it all. The one that got me into this amazing series. Loved it when it first game out, and still love it to this day.
